At the most recent "Adopt a Serviceman Program" held at the governor's mansion in Missouri six members of the United States Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines were recognized for military service in Iraq. SECNAV and Department of Defense sent representatives. US Congressmen Ike Skelton (D) and Congressman Kenny Hulshof (R) were key speakers. Army cadets from Washington University ROTC (St. Louis, MO) provided a ceremonial saber arch detail with US Navy Midshipman assisting. The event was hosted by the governor with first lady Laura Holden serving as hostess. Guests included several Missouri state legislators as well as other elected officials. Secretary of State Matt Blunt (R) presented Missouri flags to the servicemen and state representative Steve Hobbs (R) presented proclamations honoring their service in Iraq. Over 85 people attended this awards program, which also honored Virginia "Ginny" Gardner who was named state teacher of the year. Generals Shull, McCamy, Rayberg, also spoke at the evening's awards. National Director and USCGA District 5 Public Affairs Officer Walt Domanski served as master of ceremonies. New Missouri Chapter Director Don Daly was formally introduced. This marked the first time in Missouri history that a Awards Dinner of this type and magnitude was held at the Governor's Mansion.
